28 October 2015: Update from The Consulate General of France in Mumbai regarding Mauritania Visa.
Although France still represents Mauritania, due to the difficulty of obtaining the prior approval of the Mauritanian authorities before issuing a visa representation, the regular short stay visa applicants are requested to make their Visa applications on arrival at the post of Mauritanian border (Apply for Visa-On-Arrival).
As part of the worldwide introduction of the Visa Information System (VIS), All Schengen consulates worldwide will be connected to VIS by the end of November 2015. For detailed Information click below:

23 October 2015: Common Information Sheet on admissible waivers from the requirement to give fingerprints
The following applicants shall be exempt from the requirement to give fingerprints:
Please note that applicants falling under category (b) must still appear personally at a Visa Application Centre
|a.||children under the age of 12;S|
|b.||persons for whom fingerprinting is physically impossible. If the fingerprinting of fewer than 10 fingers is possible, the maximum number of fingerprints shall be taken. However, should the impossibility be temporary, the applicant shall be required to give the fingerprints at the following application. The competent authorities shall be entitled to ask for further clarification of the grounds for the temporary impossibility.|
|c.||heads of State or government and members of a national government (Ministers and Ministers of state only) with accompanying spouses, and the members of their official delegation when they are invited by Member States’ governments or by international organisations for an official purpose|

All applicants residing in India can now apply at any France Visa Application Centre in India (Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Puducherry, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Ahmedabad, Pune, Goa, Hyderabad and Cochin) effective 30 October 2014.
Please note that visa applications cannot be processed from applicants (including Indian nationals) not permanently residing in India.
Those visiting India and wishing to go to France from India - even on their way back to their country of residence - need to apply for their Schengen visa before departing from the relevant French Consulate of their country of residence.
Important update from the Consulate General of France in Mumbai
The travel agencies need to inform their clients about the requirement of producing certain valid documents while presenting themselves at the border, conforming to the Article L211-12 ° of the Law governing the Entry and Residence of Foreigners and the Right to Asylum (CESEDA): “In order to enter France, all foreigners must hold, subject to international conventions, proof of accommodation as mentioned in Article L. 211-3, if required, and all other documents as decreed by the Council of State related, on the one hand, to the purpose and conditions of his/ her stay and on the other hand, if applicable, to the cover provided by an approved insurance company for the medical and hospital expenses, including welfare, that may be incurred if s/he requires medical attention in France and to the guarantee of his/ her repatriation; "

As per the instructions of the Consulate General of France, Mumbai, VFS Global will not accept any visa application for France on behalf of any applicant from :
|1.||Visa Consultancy Services (VCS) having theirs office/s in Mumbai at its France Visa Application Center/s in Mumbai (with effect from 25 September 2013)|
|2.||Luft Holidays having theirs office/s in Mumbai at its France Visa Application Center/s in Mumbai (with effect from 21 January 2014).|

Since July 2013, French authorities have decided to facilitate travel to France for all Indian citizens who have studied in France. From then, all Indian citizens residing in India who have graduated from a French higher education institution subsequently applying for a tourist or business short stay visa for a trip to France, will be given a visa with a long period of validity – up to five years (subject to passport validity date) if the studies in France were at the Master or PhD levels.
From 1 July 2013 onwards, the French Consulate in Mumbai will proceed with a temporary suspension of biometrics for visa applications applying to all visa applicants and to all categories of visas (short-stay and long-stay). As a consequence, appointment system at VFS has been removed for applicants who fall under the jurisdiction of the Consulate of France in Mumbai:
|1.||For individual applications: applications for short or long term visa for France can be submitted directly by the applicant himself or a representative (In case of previous VIS) at the France Visa Application Center in Mumbai with prior appointment during regular submission timings from 08:00 hrs to 15:00 (Monday to Friday, except holidays observed by the Consulate of France in Mumbai).|
|2.||For groups: Please note that for groups of more than 10 applicants, travel agencies will to submit the group files at VFS at the earliest possible in order for them to be processed at the France Consulate.|
|3.||The applicant does not have to come to the French Consulate, unless being called for an interview. The passports can be collected at VFS or sent back to the applicant by VFS.|
