16 November 2015: Important Information
The French Consulate in Kolkata wishes to inform you that last Friday’s attacks have prompted the French government to take temporary tighter security measures at all points of entry in France. Procedures for entering the country only differs is that now, there are border controls.
The procedure for applying for a Schengen visa at the French Consulate in Kolkata, via the outsourcing company VFS, is maintained and carried out as usual. We wish to emphasize that issuing visas continues as normal and that there have been no changes.
Travelers holding a valid Schengen visa issued by any of the Schengen partners can enter France, as well as those holding a valid Schengen visa issued by any French Consulate or Embassy abroad.
While previously travelers holding a Schengen visa were free to move anywhere within the Schengen area, the difference now is that they will be checked when entering and leaving the French borders, but they can still tour freely within the Schengen zone.
Valid Schengen visas that were issued before 13th November 2015, and those delivered after that date are valid.
No exit visa is necessary to leave France.
12 November 2015: Passport requirements with effect from 02 November 2015
Taking into account the forthcoming change into biometrics in November 2015 the French Consulate in Kolkata has laid down new passport requirements -- Original passport, issued less than ten years ago and valid for at least three months after the intended return date to India from the Schengen zone. It must have a minimum of two blank pages (face to face). A photocopy of the front and back pages with applicant's address must be submitted. Copies of valid and expired visas for all Schengen countries, the United Kingdom and the United States of America, must also be shown.
It is not possible to accept passports with any written observations concerning Passport number; Surname; Given Name; Nationality; Sex; Date of Birth; Place of Birth; Place of Issue; Date of Issue; Date of Expiry. Only passports with no observations can be presented. Passports must be machine readable. Handwritten passports cannot be accepted.
29 October 2015: Non-Submission of Application Day on 30 October 2015
Kindly note that on 30 October 2015 is No Application Day but the Visa Application Centre will remain open to for any enquiry and passport collection.
20 October 2015: Prior appointment required for visa application from 26 October 2015
All the applicants applying for Schengen visa are requested to schedule a prior appointment to submit their application at the VFS Visa Application Centre for France in Kolkata.
Important: As part of the visa application procedure, from 02 November 2015 applicants will need to provide Biometric fingerprint data along with a digital photograph. If you have temporary injuries on your fingers, applicants are advised to wait until the injuries have healed before you book your appointment. Henna on fingertips may also mean we are unable to get a clear scanned image and should be removed or allowed to fade before your appointment date.
Before you make an appointment you should carefully read the visa application process available on the website to submit your visa application and supporting documents at the visa application center.
If you have missed your appointment on the scheduled day, the system will not allow you to reschedule or cancel and you will require to book a new appointment after 24 hours.
Please make sure you arrive at the visa application center 15 minutes prior to your appointment time. Applicants are not allowed to be accompanied inside the visa application center. The only exceptions to this are those accompanying children under 18 years-of-age or applicants who need special assistance for health reasons or disability.
If you are part of a family or group, each member of the family or group must make an individual appointment. For example, if you are a family of 4 with 2 adults and 2 children you must make 4 individual appointments.

14 October 2015: Courier Services affected from 19 Oct to 23 Oct during Durga Puja Festival in Kolkata
Due to skeletal functioning of our Courier Service Provider Blue Dart in Kolkata during the Durga Puja Festival please note that the delivery of the passports couriered from 19 October to 23 October from Kolkata Visa Application Centre will be delayed. Regular courier services will resume from 26 October, 2015.

02 September 2015: Closure of Visa Application Centre in Kolkata
Visa Application Centre in Kolkata will remain closed on 02 September 2015 due to All India Strike by Central Trade Unions.
